Iron Man 2

(Movie review)

I was never a fan of its comic books but I would have to say that the first film was really entertaining. Much hype surrounded this sequel before its release, making it one of the most anticipated movies of the year. But does it live up to the expectations? Well to me, this is just a decent sequel.

I thought the witty jokes were hilarious and it was really cool to see the fictional high tech gadgets that they have in the movie put to use (hell, I would love to have one of those hologram Iphones if they exist). I also enjoyed watching how Tony Stark gets the limelight for being a publically known superhero and being punish by the consequences of it as well. The additional of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, the sex appeal for the film definitely went up a bar. And the storyline is a good build-up for the upcoming Avengers film.

Now lets talk about the negatives about the movie. Firstly, all the big fighting scenes are too little and too short. They used up some time in the film trying to make it a little dramatic but failed to do so. (SPOILER BEGINS FROM HERE) When Tony Stark was supposed to be dying, I could not feel the emotional side of situation at all (SPOILER ENDS HERE). Secondly, the CGI perhaps could have been better because Iron Man still seem very 3-D animated as he was in the first installment, let alone the other CG characters. Thirdly, I absolutely felt that the replacement actor for Rhodey, Don Cheadle, did not fit the role. And lastly, there are some things in the movie that were just illogical to me. And these are some of them:-

F1 scene: Ivan Vanko/Whiplash’s lower body gets rammed into the wall by a car a few times and not only he survives that, but none of his bones seems to be broken, too.

Birthday party scene: Rhodey just takes the suit and uses it as though he has already done it many times before.

Near to the end of the movie: Black Widow helps Rhodes to regain control of his suit but does not try to reprogram or disable the drones.

Verdict: The movie was entertaining to me but there were things that I did not like (as mentioned above) and I am not exactly sure if it would be as good if I seen it at home instead of the cinema.

Is there a post-credits scene? Yes.

Favourite quote: (SPOILER BEGINS FROM HERE) Stark to Fury: “I don’t want to be a part of your super secret boy band.” (SPOILER ENDS HERE)

Least Favourite Scene: (SPOILER BEGINS FROM HERE) The final battle scene. It was a two on one and it was way too easy and the fight was way too short (SPOILER ENDS HERE).

Rating: 3 / 5

I'll only be watching Ip Man 2 this Wednesday. But worry not, I will compare them and announce which one's a better film in overall. =)
