Genre: Action thriller
Running Time: 1 hour 42 minutes
Director: Phillip Noyce
Cast: Angelina Jolie-Pitt, Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor
Angelina Jolie plays Evelyn SALT, someone who’s been working as a CIA agent for years but it turns that she’s a trained Russian spy. Basically in this film, she’s a female version of James Bond, Macgyver and Jason Bourne combined. So yeah, you can expect to see one woman taking on dozens of well-trained and armed guys.
Jolie is in her mid 40s and still lookin’ hot but although she did considerably well for this movie (with no sex or nude scenes at all), I’d have to say that this is one of her worst films I’ve seen. With that being said, it’s absolutely not her fault. This movie has an uninspiring plot, lack of in-depth storyline, and a poor script.
Some of the action scenes are decent while some are just inconvincing and irritating. Inconvincing in the sense that some of the protagonist’s obstacles are too easy to pass, and irritating because of the shaky camera shots. And for all that, I could only point the finger at the director.
Verdict: A one-woman show with a simple plot that was done quite confusingly. My friend felt that it’s a “DVD movie” while I thought it’s not even worth downloading. I felt that I practically wasted 13 bucks.
Strange… (Spoiler begins here) When Salt reunites with Orlov after supposedly killing the Russian President, why do they speak in English more than in Russian? (Spoiler ends here).
Illogic: (Spoiler begins here) Besides the U.S CIA, FIB, cops and government being so unbelievably incompetent in the movie, I don’t think any kid could be that well trained until they could grow up to be as strong and skillful as Salt without any further or continuous training. Not to mention that Salt is a grown woman (Spoiler ends here).
The title? Couldn’t they come up with a better name for the film or the character? I know ‘salt’ has many different meanings but I see none that could relate to the movie or the actress.
