The Tourist

( Movie review )

Rated: PG-13
Genre: Thriller
Running Time: 104 min
Director: Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
Cast: Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Steven Berkoff

“This is a remake of the 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer.” Wikipedia

“Elise (Angelina Jolie) sits next to an American tourist, Frank (Johnny Depp), on a train going to Venice. She has chosen him as a decoy, making believe that he is her lover who is wanted for police. Not only will they need to evade the police, but also the mobster whose money her lover stole.” – Douglas Young, IMDB

Verdict: Terrible plot, predictable, cheesy and not exactly amusing. Furthermore, the two leads, Depp and Jolie, lacks of on-screen chemistry. However, the movie does not lack of elegance as it is beautifully filmed. The individual charm of the two big stars manage to shine through as well. Watching the movie also made me feel like visiting Venice.

Favourite quote: (SPOILER BEGINS HERE, quotes are not precise) “This is not a real cigarette. It’s an electronic cigarette,” says Frank and Elise replies, “That’s disappointing. You’re not a man who does whatever he wants.” (SPOILER ENDS HERE)

Rating: 2 / 5
