Information Communication and Culture Minister Anus Probe Dr Rais Yatim claimed that some of the Bersih 2.0 participants were paid RM50 each to wear a yellow-coloured T-shirt and join the rally. Besides that, they were also given free meals. He added that it proves that proves that the action taken by those wearing the yellow shirts or their leaders was moved by political rewards. Apparently all these are stated in some JASA report (Source: Bernama).
I wonder where they got that from. Any truth in anything he said? I doubt. They should’ve made it more convincing by presenting a fake video indicating that the Bersih participants were getting paid and then state that they suspect that it was financed by the Penang state government. But all they did was just talk. This was a lazy accusation.
Okay, probably there were some who were paid, I wouldn’t know. Probably these people who paid were just too passionate and wealthy. Or probably these people were from one of the political parties. Or perhaps they didn’t even have any connection with the any parties or the Bersih committee. But I’ll tell you what I believe – it’s bullshit. Nobody was paid at all.
I am personally offended and angered by his statement because I participated in the Bersih rally on 709 with my friends and it wasn’t for personal gain. We marched for one common purpose and that was to sincerely advocate for free and fair elections. We spoken to many friendly strangers during the demonstration and they were there for the same cause. We stayed and marched on even when the police began attacking. People who are after personal gain wouldn’t be as brave. The biggest example? Barison Nasional. Manipulating the mainstream media and telling lies about Bersih.
To begin with, who in the right mind would risk being arrested and attacked by the police for RM50? And logically, come on, how many could one afford to pay?
Rais Yatim also said that the public, especially the Bersih 2.0 rally participants, to learn the lessons from the London riots. He told us to look at the courtesy showed by the Royal Malaysia Police when dealing with the Bersih protestors and controlling the situation during the rally as compared to what happened in London.
Hey “doctor”, the police in London only arrested 160 demonstrators after a police car and a building were set on fire whereas the police in Malaysia arrested most of the peaceful 1,600 citizens for only wearing yellow and some were before even the rally happened. 10 times more the amount, no provocation required, comes with free tear gas canisters and chemical-laced water during the demonstration. Quite a deal indeed.
Oh wow, try typing Rais Yatim‘s name on Google and see what you’d find!
Rapist over minister.
