UFC 160: Velasquez retains belt | Recap, results & review

Cain Velasquez UFC160 knockout punch vs Antonio Big Foot Silva

Cain Velasquez has successfully defended his UFC Heavyweight Championship title for the first time yesterday by beating Antonio “Big Foot” Silva via TKO (punches) in the first round (again). The sudden burst of Cain’s well placed one-two caught Silva by surprise. Both of the punches landed on the left chin of the Brazilian and dropped him with the huge right. The Big Foot tried to stand up but that left his chin opened for more Velasquez pounding and dropped him back to his knees again. The referee stopped the contest at 1:21 in Round 1. A disappointingly quick main event, it was.

Former heavyweight champ Junior Dos Santos beaten Mark Hunt in the co-main event in the third round via KO. Junior’s strategy of using his pace worked out well. He never really looked like losing and was very much in control. There was a couple of occasions in previous rounds where he landed some powerful right hand but he decided to take it easy. During his interview with Joe Rogan after the fight, he said that it was his first time doing wheel kicks. His right calf caught Mark’s head and dropped him but it was the follow-up punch that knocked him out. Good to see the nice Brazilian back victorious. Looking forward to see a rematch between him and Cain soon.
