TUF China Finale: Kim KO’s Hathaway with spinning back elbow

Kim Dong-Hyun spinning elbow vs. John Hathaway in TUF China finale meme

Asia wins it all on the main card in Macao; a much more entertaining fights than the debut in Singapore

What a fucking performance by Kim Dong-Hyun against John Hathaway (who was 17-1 coming into this event!). The “Stun Gun” showed some real zombie swagger (perhaps Chan Sung Jung should give his nickname “Korean Zombie” to Dong), just moving forward in the entire bout being very confident with his punches after knocking out Erick Silva previously. He totally dominated this fight, casually delivering massive amount of significant strikes in round 1 and 2 and finally finished with a spinning elbow on a counter against the Englishman’s elbow! He knocked out yet another great fighter and it’s one hell of an impressive move again!

Kim was absolutely pumped up fighting in front of the Asian crowd. Keep on going with this kind of confidence and he’d soon be fighting for the UFC Welterweight Championship title, which is now vacanted by George St. Pierre. Champion or not, I think he’s already the best pound-for-pound pure Asian MMA fighter in the world right now.

Zhang Lipeng crowned inaugural The Ultimate Fighter: China welterweight winner

Half of the crowd can be heard booing when Zhang Lipeng’s hand was raised instead finalist Wang Sai’s at the end of the fight. The commentators called Zhang’s split decision win a controversial call but to me, Zhang did enough to win. Looking at the score (29-28, 27-30, 29-28), one of the judges actually thought that Wang won all three rounds.

Wang looked overly eager and determined, kneed illegally at one point and attempting to swing a punch when Zhang offered to touch gloves to accept his apology but got taken down instead. When they’re both on their feet, neither really impressed with their striking. Zhang had more takedowns, seemed to have more control on the ground and very nearly finished with a rear naked choke, and based on that without going to detailed analysis, Zhang was indeed the rightful winner to me.

Due to an injury to Yang Jianping, the featherweight final is postponed to a future event in Asia where he’ll face fellow finalist Ning Guangyou.
