Learn the traditional recipes of 28 different European countries from a single cookbook

Sick of the same stuff you’re tasting everyday of your life? Ever wished you know how to cook up some European dishes on your own without paying a single cent? Perhaps start with a rather uncommon coloured appetiser like this cold refreshing pink beet soup from Lithuania to kick off the meal in the hot weather…

Then move on to the entree that’s deliciously meaty and different, like this squid and prawn dish
from Croatia before finishing off with a satisfying sweet dessert like France’s iconic Macarons.

Well we’re in luck as the Delegation of the European Union to Malaysia has published a cookbook titled Europe Uncovered: A Journey in 28 Dishes, a collection of traditional recipes, festivals and trivia from the 28 EU Member States. It was produced in collaboration with the EU Member States’ embassies in Malaysia as well as locally-based European chefs like Nathalie Aberfeuille, and Jochen Kern who heads the School of Culinary Arts at BERJAYA University College of Hospitality.

The launching event was held on Europe Day (9th of May; so sorry it took me 19 days to post about this, been very busy) at the fine dining restaurant Samplings on the Fourteenth at BERJAYA University College of Hospitality.

I had the privilege to taste all of the available dishes that day and they were all just delightful. Some of them even tasted mixed with Malaysian flavour, maybe that was because the dishes were cooked by the local students of the school. My favourite from that day was definitely Hungary’s Hortobagyi Palacsinta, a savoury pancake filled meat and topped with paprika sauce. Absolutely delicious and satisfying.
