UFC 174: “Mighty Mouse” retains Flyweight belt

UFC 174 Johnson punches Bagautinov

Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson successfully defends UFC Flyweight Championship from Ali Bagautinov

Rory Macdonald dominates all 3 rounds against Tyron Woodley

Demetrious Johnson (20-2-1) shown great footwork and speed as he always does while Ali Bagautinov (13-3), as Joe Rogan said it, did the same mistake as Benavidez by standing flat footed facing the champ the entire time, obviously hoping to counter Mighty Mouse with his power and knock him out. But Johnson was just too quick for him, dodging and avoiding most strikes with ease on standup. When in clinch on the fence, Johnson was able to push his opponent’s head down for some knees.

In the second round, Johnson began landing some hard punches, leg kicks and head kicks, and knee to the chin. Bagautinov could not land anything big at all besides some takedowns which Johnson was able to get back to his feet instantaneously, and a punch to the cheek when Johnson slipped. They went for clinch and takedown attempts here and there during the championship rounds but Johnson controlled the fight completely. Johnson won by unanimous decision and it wasn’t even slightly difficult to score. It wasn’t the most entertaining fight to watch, but the champ got the job done.

In the co-main event, Rory MacDonald (17-2) dictated his fight against Tyron Woodley (13-3), backing his opponent to the fences most of the time in every round and delivered strikes patiently and accurately. Woodley was absolutely clueless and couldn’t push the fight to the centre of the octagon. MacDonald sealed the win when he added a takedown and ground dominance into his scorecard during the final round. He won easily by unanimous judges decision and should be next in line to challenge for the Welterweight Championship.
