TUF 19 Finale: Edgar and team win it all, BJ Penn disappoints in last career fight

Frankie Edgar TKO BJ Penn bloody in TUF 19 finale

Frankie Edgar dominates and finishes BJ Penn in The Ultimate Fighter Season 19 Finale

TUF 19 Middleweight Final: Gordan overpowers Lima
TUF 19 Light Heavyweight Final: Van Buren couldn’t withstand Anderson

It was an all Team Edgar finale in Las Vegas. Eddie Gordan and Corey Anderson are winners of The Ultimate Fighter season 19 in their respective division, both of them have won themselves a lucrative contract with the UFC. Gordan easily finished his opponent Diego Lima within seconds from the opening bell with a scary-looking powerful overhand righty which started the trouble. Lima tried to recover and get back to his feet without protecting his face but Gordan maintained pressure by throwing clubbing punches non-stop. The referee had no choice but to stop the fight eventhough Lima wasn’t completely out. It was pretty much the same story in the Light Heavyweight final, where Anderson dominated against his teammate Matt Van Buren, who had no answer to Anderson’s speed and strength. To be fair, Van Buren did survive a bit longer than Lima did against Gordan.

In what may had been BJ Penn’s (16-10-2) last career fight, he gave one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen from a legend. The former UFC Welterweight and Lightweight Champion looked very weak, slow, flat-footed moving forward throwing pointless jabs like a bot for Frankie Edgar (17-4-1) to train with. He then just lied down on the ground for Edgar to come in to feed him the ground and pound, which he did, bloodied and finished him off in the third round. I know it was Penn’s first time dropping down to 145 lb but hell, how could any former champ consciously perform this badly? No wonder none of his team’s fighters made it to the final, he’s totally lost it. It’s the third time these both have faced each other but it’s first time Edgar won not by decision.
