UFC Fight Night 49: Benson Henderson KO-ed by Rafael Dos Anjos

Dos Anjos KO punch Henderson UFC Fight Night 49

Careless former Lightweight champ allows underdog to punch his lights out

Oh gosh, I just realised that there was another event the same day as Fight Night 48: Bispring vs Le. This card was not a PPV but it was way more satisfying in overall than UFC 177, just the amount of bouts already beats it. Most of the fights on the card were entertaining, plenty of knockout finishes. Since it’s long over, this recap is going to be just a quickie.

Yup, Benson Henderson (21-4) has lost in a non-title bout for the first time, and not only that, he was knocked out quite quickly in the very first round by an underdog, Rafael dos Anjos (22-7) of Evolve MMA gym Singapore. Anjos looked very strong and more aggressive, pushing forward despite Henderson’s great punch and front kick to the body. Anjos showed some really impressive striking combos, before connecting with a flying knee to the former Lightweight champ’s face. Henderson went straight for the double leg to try to buy time and recover but as he tried to get back to his feet carelessly, a wide-opened window to his chin was presented to Anjos and he took it. The crowd and Henderson were not happy with the ref’s stoppage, but he was indeed knocked out no matter how you see it.
