H-Artistry 2014 finale party in KL featured Tinie Tempah, MKTO, Cream, Paperplane Pursuit & Imma*bleep*youup

Held at the Malaysia International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC) in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday (15 November), H-Artistry 2014 finaleThe Global Art of Mixing – was a superb clubbing party for revellers like no other this year, with music acts from the East and West to entertain pop and hip hop lovers, and the trademark signature long drinks for everyone indulge throughout the night.

The party kicked off with local pop rock band Paperplane Pursuit with a short set to warm up the crowd while waiting for those stuck outside in traffic congestion to arrive. Japan’s Cream was next to take the stage. Although they were practically unknown to the tough crowd that was still very sober at this point, the pop rap duo managed to leave a mark with a strong performance, especially with their catchy single Shooting Star.

It started getting more packed at the front of the stage where my table was at when MKTO came out for their set. It was getting so crowded that my phone had trouble getting coverage. I wasn’t familiar with them at all but the live band that was playing for them certainly rocked it. The crowd was all pumped up after the American pop duo covered Michael Jackson’s Black and White with Paperplane Pursuit. The main headliner, Tinie Tempah, followed up with an enthusiastic performance of his own. I couldn’t catch a single word the Englishman was rapping, but his conviction got the crowd moving and dancing to the beat.

The fun night went on with Malaysia’s very own house DJ trio Imma*bleep*youup spinning some mixes for the attendees to dance to until the party officially ended around 1am, I assume (I left at 12.30am). Paperplane Pursuit came on stage again to join their fellow local artists to perform their collaborated singles Chasing Dreams and Live Forever, which were apparently inspired by H-Artistry’s very own unique Global Art of Mixing platform that connected these two artists from different genres and styles. There were food trucks waiting outside this time for the party people further satisfy their night.

Due to the decrease of big parties in Malaysia (thanks to that incident), H-Artistry – The Global Art of Mixing had became the most anticipated super clubbing event of the year. Naturally, I was excited and feeling a bit nostalgic even though it was only 2 years since I’ve attended a H-Artistry event (I didn’t attend last year’s due to clash of events).

In overall, the event this time was very well organised. I got to enjoy the free flow of awesome long drinks more than previous occasions, and I liked how both media and VIP were arranged to the same zone right in front of the stage. The music weren’t my cup of tea again but it was slightly better than the lineup in 2012. Most importantly, the organiser’s anti-drug initiatives ensured that the night went smoothly. Well done, H-Artistry! Next year, just bring some veteran rockers over and it’d be perfect.
