Top movie picks for June 2017 releases in Malaysia

Malaysia Release Date: 1 June 2017
Genre: Superhero
Director: Patty Jenkins
Cast: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright

Aw yea, it’s finally here — the first ever female superhero standalone film in the DCEU/MCU era. Portrayed by Gal Gadot who already appeared in Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman’s hot, strong, independent, righteous and in bed, would probably be on top of the character Chris Pine is playing. She is probably the counterpart of Marvel’s Captain America (you know, with the whole past and involvement in war thing plus the shield). Well I can’t wait to watch it. I really hope this would be Warner-DC’s turning point for the sake of their upcoming Justice League films.

Let’s Go, Jets!

Malaysia Release Date: 8 June 2017 (TGV only, perhaps)
Genre: Comedy
Director: Hayato Kawai
Cast: Suzu Hirose, Yuki Amami, Ayami Nakajo

Despite the seemingly cliched plot about high school misfits get together for certain team sport or whatever competition, this one is apparently based on an inspiring true story about how this Japanese cheerleading team chased the dream of winning in a U.S. competition. On top of that, it’s done as a comedy. So it should be good even if it has a formulaic storyline ’cause I’ve never been disappointed by a Japanese comedy yet. Cute Japanese cheerleaders? I’m in already. I mean, I’m interested in watching it. Sadly, I won’t be reviewing it ’cause ironically, I’ll be in Tokyo for a long vacation when this film releases.

Malaysia Release Date: (UPDATE: No longer showing in June 2017)
Genre: Comedy
Director: Andrew Jay Cohen
Cast: Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Ryan Simpkins, Jason Mantzoukas, Jeremy Renner

This is the directorial debut of the screenwriter of both Neighbors films which I haven’t seen but I heard they’re great comedies. The House, too, is a comedy about these stupid parents who starts an underground, illegal gambling den to raise money for their daughter’s university tuition fee. Why don’t they just get a student loan? I hope the film has a good explanation for this. It stars the former SNL casts and according to Wikipedia, may have a cameo appearance of “Hawkeye” Jeremy Renner. I hope it’s genuinely funny.

If you’re wondering why I didn’t pick other titles such as Baywatch, it’s because I haven’t been receiving any official news about it from the local distributors.
