Urbanscapes 2017 ends on high note at Tiger Beer Malaysia’s Uncage Music

Held last Sunday night at The Row in KL, Tiger Beer Malaysia’s #UncageMusic Block Party x Urbanscapes 2017 finale featured a lineup of great international and local music acts headlined by South Korean indie rockers hyukoh and Canadian electronic synth-punk duo Crystal Castles. Entry to the show was limited to winners of contests run by Tiger Beer and Urbanscapes and I was lucky enough to be invited.

I’ve never heard of of either of these two headliners until this event came up and I was impressed by their stuff I heard on YouTube, particularly hyukoh. And they didn’t disappoint with their performance at Slate. Regardless of the accusations they were facing, they have quite a unique, rock-soul-jazz sound to me. This may be the band that can change my unliking towards Korean music today. Crystal Castles, too, gave an extremely loud, no-fucks-given performance that kept the crowd highly entertained. The place was smoked up AF but it was genius ’cause it prevented most people from trying to take photos or record and just fucking enjoy the show. Anyway, it’s awesome how I’m discovering new music through this platform by Tiger.

During the event, there are plenty more going on next doors. At Timbre, the public were welcomed to experience an immersive audiovisual collaboration between renowned local musical acts such as An Honest Mistake, Rozella and RyötJones with the visual artists Kenji Chai and Cloakwork. At The Deck, Hanafuda Project, DJ Reeve and DJ Biggie spun some music for the attendees there to dance the night away on the rooftop with the stunning view of the city on the background while treating themselves to ice-cold Tiger Beer and scrumptious food sold there. That’s not all. The whole back alley of The Row was filled with cool and adorable art pieces, pop up food and beverage carts and a beer garden throughout the day.

Marketing Manager of Tiger Beer, Jessie Chuah, said, “It is #UncageMusic’s mission to bring two different worlds of music and art together, creating a whole new perspective on creativity. It is fascinating to see fans enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience that was exclusively brought to them by Tiger Beer. We hope to continue our partnership with Urbanscapes and work together again to bring more exciting experience for our discerning drinkers.”

Urbanscapes 2017 may be over. But there’s still more to come from Tiger #UncageMusic. Stay tuned to Tiger Beer’s FB Page for upcoming line-ups.
