There were two major announcements at the ONE Fighting Championship press conference held in Kuala Lumpur last week. One, our local mobile prepaid company, Tune Talk, was revealed to be One FC‘s new partner and official telco. And two, the Asian mixed martial art (MMA) organisation is returning to hold another event in Malaysia on the 2nd of February 2013 with the event title Return of Warriors. The main bout of One FC: Returns of Warriors will be Eric “The Natural” Kelly against Honorio “The Rock” Banario for the Featherweight World Championship Title belt.
Filipino Eric Kelly suffered an eye injury in his recent URCC
fight (which he won) and said that the vision of that eye’s still a little blur when there’s glare but he’s
confident that he will be fully recovered in the next few days. His
opponent and fellow countryman, Honorio Banario, said he will be putting their friendship aside for this title fight. I’m absolutely excited for this fight because I’m a huge fan of Eric Kelly. Not only because he’s a world class fighter, I’ve also learnt MMA from the humble man before and I’ve heard of his hardships prior to getting where he is today. I’ll be definitely be rooting for him to win the most important fight in his career.
The other main card bout that I’m personally excited with is Peter Davis vs. Leo Krishna. Peter represents Malaysia and was the first MMA trainer/instructor that I’ve learnt from. He had a great TKO win in his previous One FC fight and said at the press conference that he’s hoping to bring an even better finish with his trademark orthodox striking style.
Return of Warriors will feature the debut of local fighter Melvin “Overkill” Yeoh, who’s a full-time teacher. Yeoh doesn’t speak very well in English but he has been winning most of his fights and shown a lot of heart at the press conference with his inspiring speech about how he opened a gym to reach out and help problematic kids in Johor, and also how he takes his fights as a challenge and a lesson to his students to do good in life. He will be up against fellow local Raymond “The Rocker” Tiew in the newly introduced One FC Malaysian National Featherweight Championship Tournament. The full fight card of Return of Warriors as follows:
CEO of Tune Talk and former rocker, Jason Lo, said that he chose to associate with One FC instead of any thing else was simply because he’s a fan of MMA. When asked if he would be seen in the cage on February 2nd, he challenges the CEO of Maxis and Digi (and Celcom?) to go in there with him for a white-collar fight. The funny man casually added, “Please use Tune Talk. We promise we won’t rip you off like Maxis and Digi.”
One Fighting Championship: Return of Warriors will be held at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on February 2nd 2013. Tickets are already on sale at AirAsiaRedTix.com.
